The Wolfpack Plan
A Smarter Way to Invest in WHA Schools
Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Schools offer a caring and challenging environment with limitless opportunities for students. Our community has consistently supported our schools, most recently by approving a bond referendum that invested in improving and modernizing our school buildings. As promised, the building referendum resulted in no or modest tax increases for homeowners. This November, the school board is asking voters to consider a new opportunity to invest in our students’ futures through a two-question operating levy referendum. Operating levies support the day-to-day components of education, including athletics and activities, support services, and teacher salaries.
What makes this ask different is a new state program that allows our school district to receive state aid equal to half of our voter-approved operating levy because of the high amount of cabin properties in our area. This means the district would unlock new revenue from the state, totaling up to $825,000, and can reduce existing local levies, relieving local taxpayers. If Questions 1 and 2 both pass, the district would preserve important student services and build a healthier financial foundation for our future with minimal impact on our residents.
If approved by voters, the Wolfpack Plan would:
Bring significant new state funding back to WHA Schools, up to $825,000
Maintain no increase in any taxes under Question 1
Protect and enhance educational opportunities
Sustain critical student supports
Strengthen the district’s long-term financial foundation
Leave taxes on seasonal recreational properties unchanged
